Which cars to rent in Australia?
Hotwire car rentals are popular in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane, but a recent survey of rental car drivers in Australia suggests many prefer rental bikes and vans.
The survey of 674 rental car operators in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Perth showed that just 22% of drivers would choose to rent a motorbike or a van.
“That’s really the majority of drivers,” says Simon Smith, CEO of RentalCar, which operates two of Australia’s top rental car networks, Rydersport and RentCars.
“There’s no doubt about it.
They love to ride a motor bike and they love to drive a van.”
It’s a view shared by Paul Fuchs, who runs the Melbourne rental car agency RentBikes.
He also owns a motorcycle rental service, which he calls the “best motorcycle rental company in the world”.
“It’s the most trusted,” says Fuchs.
“They’ve got a really good reputation, and you’ve got to trust that with their customer.”
The survey results are part of a wider trend that is driving rental car usage across Australia, and a new industry.
“It just means there’s more and more people interested in buying and renting a car,” says Smith.
“The number of cars you buy will determine the number of people you can get in your driveway.” “
For rental car companies, the numbers are not necessarily the same across Australia. “

RentCards, which was launched in the US, is an Australian business which operates in Sydney and Melbourne.
“In the US you buy a car from a dealer and the car is leased to you for three years,” says Adam Bittner, RentCard’s chief executive.
“And then, we rent them to customers. “
“So if you buy one car, you can rent it out to anyone. “
If you rent one car and buy a second car, that means you have an extra car in the garage. “

You can rent a car and use it as a rental.” “
But that second car doesn’t have to be a rental car.
You can rent a car and use it as a rental.”
Bittners advice is simple: rent a vehicle.
“Your rent is a little bit like a mortgage, or a house, or whatever you want to call it.
“When you rent your vehicle, we can’t give you any guarantee that we’ll actually be able to pay for the car. “
We can’t guarantee you will get paid, but you’ll get to enjoy the car for the duration of your lease.” “

Rydesport, which also operates in Melbourne and Sydney, has been around for 30 years.
It is run by a small group of car drivers, but it has an extensive network.
“Rydersports is a car rental company,” says Paul Fuch.
So we’re the biggest rental car company in Australia. “
For our fleet, we have around 15,000 cars.
Fuchs agrees, saying “the key to us being successful is that our drivers have got good relationships with our people. “
I’ve always felt like I have to rent the car because we’re an old-fashioned rental car.”
But when you’ve driven them for the whole week, you really understand how expensive it can be.” “
Most people think rental cars are cheap, and we’re not.
But when you’ve driven them for the whole week, you really understand how expensive it can be.”
RentCar, which has more than 7,000 vehicles in Australia and is owned by a group of Australian car drivers including Paul Fachler, has expanded its network in recent years, with a goal of reaching 30,000 by 2020.
“Since we started renting cars in 2012, we’ve grown by 20% in terms of the number and variety of vehicles we’re able to rent,” says Mr Smith.
RentCar is also the largest car rental agency in the country, with around 5,000 rental cars.
While the rental companies’ focus on the rental car market is driving demand for rental cars, it’s also driving the demand for their own fleet.
“As more people come into the rental vehicle business, we’re seeing demand for our own vehicles,” says Bittsons co-founder, Simon Smith.
The rental companies, along with others, are trying to tap into the growing popularity of mobile phone and car sharing services such as Uber.
“A lot of our customers are people who want to go to work, or go to the gym, or have a barbecue,” says Mark Fuchs of Rent
