When you rent a car, you need to pay a fee
Google’s CarRental app has announced that it’s adding a fee to all new car rentals.
Users are going to pay $25 for a car rental, up from $25, with a $2 “first time” fee.
This is a pretty small fee, but Google’s plan is to eventually remove it.
CarRentals co-founder and CEO Ben Bova told TechCrunch that this is “just the first step” in their plan to add the fee to car rentals worldwide.
That’s an interesting move, because it’s one of the few major companies to remove fees from car rentals in the past, and the company’s biggest rival, Lyft, has also dropped fees from its app in the last year.
Car rentals can get pricey if you have a big car.
A new 2017 Chevrolet Silverado, for example, starts at $28,500 and will cost you $33,900 to rent.
In addition to the $25 fee, the price of a new car varies by the city where you live, so it’s a good idea to check with the car rental agency you plan on renting from to make sure the price is reasonable.
You’ll also need to register your car with the company.
